NEW DELHI: A Pitampura restaurant has apologised after a couple alleged they were denied entry for wearing Indian attire, triggering public outrage. The incident occurred on August 3 at a restaurant inside the Pitampura Metro premises, where the woman was reportedly wearing a salwar suit.
A video of the couple’s complaint went viral on social media, also alleging misbehaviour by staff. Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra said the owner has released a video apology and announced special Raksha Bandhan discounts for women in traditional outfits.
Mishra said an inquiry suggested the restaurant may have had an unofficial dress policy. Following instructions from the Chief Minister, district officials met the owner, who agreed no restrictions will be imposed on customers wearing Indian clothing.
