Monsoon Flood in Pakistan

The ongoing monsoon continues to wreak havoc across several parts of India, claiming lives, triggering landslides, and causing widespread flooding.

Himachal Pradesh

According to the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA), 257 people have died since June 20. Of these, 133 deaths were caused by rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, drowning, and electrocution, while 124 fatalities occurred in road accidents. The State has also reported 331 injuries and 37 missing persons during this monsoon season.

Maharashtra

In Mumbai, two people were killed and two others injured when a landslip struck Jankalyan Society in Vikhroli in the early hours of Saturday. The incident occurred after heavy overnight rains lashed the city, inundating several low-lying areas and disrupting local train services.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of more intense rainfall and waterlogging.

Telangana

The IMD has warned of a flash flood threat in Adilabad and Nirmal districts, valid till 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, due to a low-pressure system over south Chhattisgarh. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to evacuate people from low-lying areas, set up relief centres, and barricade waterlogged roads.

Maharashtra’s Latur

An alert has also been sounded in Latur district, where rising water levels in the Terna and Manjara rivers forced dam authorities to release excess water. The IMD has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region.

Odisha

In Koraput and Malkangiri, heavy rain has triggered landslides and flooding, submerging roads and disrupting inter-state vehicular movement with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Other States

  • Rajasthan is expected to see moderate to heavy rainfall in Udaipur, Jodhpur, and other divisions over the next few days.
  • Uttarakhand has been put on yellow and orange alert, with officials directed to remain on high alert for possible landslides and flash floods.
  • Delhi recorded a minimum of 25°C with the IMD forecasting rain spells through the weekend.
