The Supreme Court on Friday modified its August 8 order on stray dogs, directing that the animals be released back into the same area after vaccination and deworming. However, dogs showing symptoms of rabies or aggressive behaviour must be immunised and kept in shelters.
The three-judge bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria also made other changes to the earlier order, which had directed civic authorities in Delhi-NCR to round up all stray dogs within eight weeks and keep them in dedicated shelters.
The case was reassigned to this bench after the earlier ruling by a Justice Pardiwala-led bench sparked widespread criticism.
