Train Derailment in North Central Texas

Emergency crews responded on August 12 to a train derailment in north central Texas that sent multiple cars — some carrying potentially hazardous materials — off the tracks and ignited grass fires, officials said.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. local time on a railroad bridge along Coalville Road, about two miles east of Gordon, a small city roughly 71 miles west of Fort Worth. Union Pacific Railroad confirmed that about 35 of its train cars were involved in the derailment.

Hazmat personnel from Union Pacific, along with the Palo Pinto Fire Department, were on the scene. Officials confirmed there were no hazardous material leaks, and cleanup operations are underway.

“All personnel have been accounted for, and no injuries have been reported,” Palo Pinto County emergency services said in a statement, noting that the situation is stable but not yet fully under control. Firefighters were working to contain small grass fires sparked by the derailment. No structures were threatened, and no evacuations were ordered.
