Trump Deploys D.C. National Guard to Tackle Crime, Homelessness

On August 12, members of the Washington, D.C., National Guard were deployed across the capital under President Donald Trump’s orders to address crime and homelessness.

Among the units mobilized was the 273rd Military Police Company, whose commanders posted images on social media showing armored Humvees stationed near the Washington Monument. While Trump authorized the activation of 800 Guard members, not all have been deployed yet.

The move has drawn sharp criticism from Democrats nationwide, who argue it raises civil liberties concerns, particularly as crime rates in the city are currently declining.
