The Karnataka government on Tuesday assured the High Court that it will neither publish nor circulate the John Michael Cunha Commission report on the June 4 stampede outside Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
State Advocate-General gave the undertaking before a Division Bench of Justice Jayant Banerji and Justice Umesh M. Adiga during a hearing on a petition filed by DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt. Ltd., owner of IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
DNA alleged that the commission violated provisions of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, by denying it the opportunity to cross-examine witnesses, and claimed the report had been leaked to the media. The government denied any role in the leak.
The court adjourned the matter to September 4.
