Wisconsin State Fair Closes Early Due to Flash Flooding, Lynyrd Skynyrd Show Canceled

Wisconsin State Flash Flood

MILWAUKEE: The Wisconsin State Fair shut down early on Saturday, August 9, after severe flash flooding hit the Milwaukee area. The National Weather Service had issued a flash flood warning for Milwaukee and Waukesha counties, which remained in effect until 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

In a Facebook announcement, fair officials told visitors:
“Attention Fairgoers! The State Fair Park is closing. Please use caution as you make your way to the nearest exit and follow staff and police directions.”

They also confirmed that Tunnel Entrance F was closed due to flooding, directing attendees to use the Main Stage or Turn 4 exits to reach parking areas.

Social media videos from the scene showed cars stranded in floodwaters, fairgoers leaving the grounds, and some people embracing the rain despite the dangerous weather.

Concert Canceled
Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd, scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. on the Bank Five Nine Main Stage, saw their show canceled after weather delays.

“While we tried everything within our control to allow this show to go on, for the safety of our artists, team, and fairgoers, we cannot host this concert,” the fair said in a follow-up post.

Refunds will be issued automatically within 7–14 days for tickets purchased through Etix, the fair’s official ticketing provider. For in-person purchases, refunds can be collected at the State Fair Ticket Office between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday–Friday, with valid ID and original tickets.
