Zelensky to Meet Trump in Washington After Putin Talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will travel to Washington on Monday for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump aimed at “ending the killing and the war,” he announced on Saturday.

Zelensky’s visit follows a phone call with Trump, during which the U.S. leader briefed him on the “main points” of his recent summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

“On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation,” Zelensky said.

According to Kyiv, the call between the two leaders began as a one-on-one exchange before being joined by several European counterparts. The White House meeting comes just three days after Trump’s high-profile talks with Putin concluded without a ceasefire agreement or clear progress in halting Moscow’s more than three-year-long invasion of Ukraine.

In the wake of the Alaska summit, Zelensky urged that European allies be involved “at every stage” of negotiations and reiterated Ukraine’s readiness for a trilateral meeting with both Trump and Putin — a format long proposed by Kyiv but resisted by Moscow.

“Ukraine emphasises that key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders, and a trilateral format is suitable for this,” Zelensky said.
